Executive Summary

LaraDashboard before version 1.4.8 has an open redirect vulnerability in its Email Template Builder. The flaw allows attackers to supply an unvalidated redirect_url parameter to the builder and builderEdit endpoints. When a logged-in user with email template permissions saves a template, the system redirects them to an attacker-controlled site, enabling phishing attacks.

Detection Guidance

Check if your LaraDashboard version is below 1.4.8. Inspect network traffic for unexpected redirects after saving email templates. Review logs for requests containing redirect_url parameters to untrusted domains.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to trick users into visiting malicious websites. Users with email template permissions might unknowingly be redirected to phishing sites when saving templates, potentially leading to credential theft or malware downloads.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements by enabling phishing attacks that compromise user data. GDPR requires protecting personal data, and HIPAA mandates safeguarding sensitive health information. A successful exploit could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or regulatory penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade LaraDashboard to version 1.4.8 or later. Implement server-side validation for redirect_url parameters. Add client-side checks in the email builder to reject external URLs. Monitor for phishing attempts targeting users with email template permissions.
