Description

The Dc Woocommerce Multi Vendor plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL Injection via the 'order_by' parameter of the /multivendorx/v1/compliance/report-abuse REST endpoint in versions up to and including 5.0.18. This is due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query β€” the value is concatenated directly into an ORDER BY clause where esc_sql() (which only neutralizes characters needed to break out of quoted string literals) provides no protection. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with vendor-level access and above (users granted the 'edit_stores' capability), to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL Injection flaw in the Dc Woocommerce Multi Vendor WordPress plugin. It exists in versions up to 5.0.18 and allows authenticated attackers with vendor-level access to inject malicious SQL queries via the 'order_by' parameter in a specific REST endpoint. The issue arises because user input is directly concatenated into an ORDER BY clause without proper escaping or preparation.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the Dc Woocommerce Multi Vendor plugin version 5.0.18 or lower. Check for suspicious SQL queries in logs targeting the /multivendorx/v1/compliance/report-abuse REST endpoint with the 'order_by' parameter. Use tools like WP-CLI to query plugin versions or scan for vulnerable endpoints.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to extract sensitive data from the database, such as user credentials, payment details, or other confidential information. The attack requires at least vendor-level access, meaning only users with the 'edit_stores' capability can exploit it. The impact includes potential data breaches and unauthorized access to stored information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing sensitive personal or health data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, and HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. A successful exploit may result in unauthorized data access, triggering regulatory penalties and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Dc Woocommerce Multi Vendor plugin to the latest version. If an update is unavailable, disable the plugin or restrict access to authenticated users with vendor-level permissions. Monitor database queries for unusual activity and apply input validation to the 'order_by' parameter.
