Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows an attacker to inject JavaScript code into the Business Name parameter of the /promoters/edit endpoint in the My Profile section. This injected code will then execute on the promoter's public page.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves JavaScript injection via the Business Name parameter in the /promoters/edit endpoint. To detect it, inspect HTTP requests to this endpoint for unusual JavaScript code in the Business Name field. Check server logs for POST requests containing script tags or event handlers like onerror or onclick.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to run malicious scripts on your public page, potentially stealing user data, session cookies, or performing actions on behalf of users without their consent.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or manipulation, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately sanitize all user inputs, especially the Business Name parameter, by implementing strict input validation and output encoding. Disable or restrict JavaScript execution in user-provided content. Update the application to reject inputs containing script tags or event handlers.
