Executive Summary

This is an Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in Apache Thrift's Dart and Java ME bindings. It allows an attacker to cause a denial of service by triggering excessive recursive calls that consume system resources.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking the version of Apache Thrift Dart and Java ME bindings in use. Commands like 'thrift --version' or inspecting project dependencies (e.g., 'pub deps' for Dart or 'mvn dependency:tree' for Java ME) can help identify vulnerable versions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to crash applications using vulnerable versions of Apache Thrift, leading to service disruption or system instability. Systems relying on Dart or Java ME bindings are particularly at risk.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability is an uncontrolled recursion issue in Apache Thrift Dart and Java ME bindings. It does not directly impact compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or similar standards as it is a software flaw rather than a data breach or privacy violation. Compliance risks would depend on how the affected bindings are used in systems handling regulated data.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache Thrift to version 0.25.0 or later immediately. Remove or replace any affected Dart or Java ME bindings in your projects.
