CWE ID Description
CWE-190 The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.

Executive Summary

This is an integer overflow vulnerability in the Apache HTTP Server's mod_dav_fs module. It occurs when an authenticated WebDAV client with write access sends PROPPATCH requests containing many XML namespaces. The overflow crashes worker processes and corrupts the directory's property database.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves an integer overflow in mod_dav_fs in Apache HTTP Server through 2.4.68. Detection requires monitoring for crashes in Apache worker processes or corruption in directory property databases after PROPPATCH requests with many XML namespaces. Check Apache error logs for worker process crashes and verify the integrity of the property database files.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could cause Apache HTTP Server to crash repeatedly, leading to service disruption. It may also corrupt stored WebDAV properties, potentially losing configuration data or metadata for files and directories.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly impact compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or similar standards as it involves an integer overflow in Apache HTTP Server's mod_dav_fs leading to crashes and property database corruption. Compliance risks would arise only if the vulnerability enables unauthorized data access or processing, which is not described here.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache HTTP Server to a version beyond 2.4.68 to address the integer overflow in mod_dav_fs. Disable WebDAV write access if not required to reduce attack surface.
