Executive Summary

This is an infinite loop vulnerability in Apache Thrift's Python bindings. It occurs when a loop lacks a proper exit condition, causing the program to hang indefinitely. This can lead to denial of service as system resources are exhausted.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Apache Thrift Python bindings before version 0.25.0. Detection involves checking the installed version of Apache Thrift. Run 'pip show thrift' or 'thrift --version' to verify the version. If the version is below 0.25.0, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

The infinite loop can cause applications using Apache Thrift to freeze or crash, leading to service disruptions. It may consume excessive CPU and memory, degrading system performance or making services unavailable.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes an infinite loop in Apache Thrift python bindings, which could lead to denial of service conditions. Such disruptions may impact data processing and availability, potentially violating compliance requirements for availability in standards like GDPR and HIPAA.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Apache Thrift to version 0.25.0 or later immediately. Use 'pip install --upgrade thrift' for Python bindings or update via your package manager. Ensure no services dependent on older versions remain running after upgrade.
