SQL Injection in WordPress Event Tickets and Registration Plugin

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-97634, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Assigner: Wordfence

Description

The Event Tickets and Registration plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to generic SQL Injection via the 'orderby' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 5.29.5 due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database. A Contributor-level user can reach the vulnerable code path by supplying a post_id they authored, as the can_access_page() gate requires only post authorship rather than the edit_others_posts capability for post owners.

Exploitability

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL Injection flaw in the Event Tickets and Registration WordPress plugin. It allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious SQL code via the 'orderby' parameter. The issue arises due to insufficient input sanitization and lack of proper SQL query preparation.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the Event Tickets and Registration plugin up to version 5.29.5. Check for suspicious SQL queries in logs or database activity, particularly involving the 'orderby' parameter. Look for authenticated users with contributor-level access attempting to modify queries.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to extract sensitive data from the WordPress database, such as user credentials, personal information, or other confidential data. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized access, or further compromise of the website.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA if it results in unauthorized access or exposure of personal or health data. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage due to data breaches caused by this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Event Tickets and Registration plugin for WordPress to the latest version, which is 5.29.6 or higher, to patch the SQL injection vulnerability. If immediate updating is not possible, restrict contributor-level user access to only necessary functions and monitor database queries for suspicious activity.
