CWE ID Description
CWE-190 The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This occurs when an integer value is incremented to a value that is too large to store in the associated representation. When this occurs, the value may become a very small or negative number.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an integer overflow caused by insufficient input validation. When processing a specially crafted image, it may trigger arbitrary code execution. It affects multiple Apple operating systems including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS versions.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves processing maliciously crafted images leading to arbitrary code execution. Detection primarily relies on updating affected systems to patched versions (iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8, macOS Tahoe 26.7) rather than specific commands. Monitor for unusual image processing behavior or crashes in image-related applications.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this flaw could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on your device by tricking you into opening a malicious image. This could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or complete system compromise depending on user privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data or arbitrary code execution, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information security). The risk of arbitrary code execution or data exposure could result in unauthorized processing or disclosure of personal or health data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update affected Apple devices to the latest versions mentioned in the CVE description (iOS 26.7.2, iPadOS 26.7.2, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate 27, macOS Sequoia 15.8, macOS Tahoe 26.7) to address the integer overflow issue.
