Description

A vulnerability in the Remote Access SSL VPN service of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause the device to reload unexpectedly, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability is due to logic errors when secondary authentication is configured on a tunnel group. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request when connecting to the SSL remote access VPN. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects Cisco Secure Firewall ASA and FTD software. It allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause the device to reload unexpectedly by sending a crafted request to the SSL remote access VPN when secondary authentication is configured on a tunnel group. This results in a denial of service condition.

Detection Guidance

The provided CVE data does not include specific detection commands or methods for identifying this vulnerability on your network or system. Cisco has not released detailed detection steps in the given context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could cause your Cisco Secure Firewall device to crash and reload, disrupting network access and services. This may lead to downtime, loss of connectivity, and potential disruption of VPN services for users.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability causes a denial of service (DoS) condition by reloading the affected device, which could disrupt secure remote access to sensitive data. This may impact compliance with standards like GDPR or HIPAA by compromising data availability and security controls required for protecting personal or health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Cisco for ASA or FTD software to address the logic errors in secondary authentication for SSL VPN. Disable secondary authentication on tunnel groups if not required. Monitor VPN logs for unusual connection attempts or reload events.
